As much as I like the Medal.tv app I can't recommend it.#1944

8/3/2023 I have wanted to change the post title for awhile now. Everything is going good Thumbs up! Voice clipping is now working with sonic studio 3’s virtual mixer and still testing because I had audio issues.

05/30/23 I got to give it a thumbs down at this point. The con’s far outweight the pro’s. I am sure it will improve over time and this post will be outdated. But as it is I would recommend OBS Studio and Youtube over Medal. I would recommend that over medal every time but unfortunately I can’t find a free HDR video editor with or without the built in effects and I get more views on medal.

Pro’s:
1) It’s a social media platform and streaming service like youtube.
2) It’s like broadcast software.
3) It’s a video editor with awesome effects available built in.
4) Support on discord are very nice and helpful.

Con’s:
1) No HDR support.
2) Webcams do not work properly.
3) No adjustable options for the webcam. ie: Alpha transparency.
4) No Spout2 support or any OBS plugins.
5) No ability to add anything to the scene. ie: Use a super low latency window capture of Facerig or Animaze. Instead of using the animaze virtual camera or the dedicated capture window. Though you can’t fully hide the UI in Animaze it can be hidden in Facerig.
6) The app is very glitchy.

Edited 06/06/2023: Updated the order of importance on the Con’s. Also Pro’s 1,2&3 were one Pro. I split them up to give them more Pro’s. Just to be nice. Also edited Pro #3 it needs more features. Pro’s #1 an #2 are not true. It is closer to private streaming like Discord. They do not want to compete with anyone. So 2 of the Pro’s are gone. Added a new Con #6.

We are fixing up webcams, but we are not trying to replace broadcasting tools with Medal. None of the stuff you mentioned is stuff we intend to add. You can use OBS alongside Medal though.

HDR support is #1 for a reason. That is the main reason. I want to use medal by itself. I like being able to record and edit with medal. I really do not want to run OBS just so I can play in HDR and record in SDR and upload it to medal.
